copying a file into a Sandbox installed application

Post by dhob187 » Tue Sep 02, 2008 5:21 pm

Hi, I need to replace a dll in a sandbox installed application, so I went to the corresponding folder (inside c:\sandbox\) on my HDD and replaced the file,

Needless to say that the installed app no longer works.

Is there any way to copy or replace files in a sandboxed application ?

Don't manipulate the sandbox folders directly.

Could you have used a sandboxed Windows Explorer to manipulate this DLL?

I need to overwrite a file (DLL) inside one of the installed application's directories, it is a form of update.

is there anyway to copy files inside sandbox ?

Hmm, maybe try opening explorer sandboxed and posting the dll file that way?

I 'think' that tzuk was saying to try right-clicking the sandboxie tray icon, highlight the correct sandbox and then click on "Run Windows Explorer" to manipulate files in the sandbox folder.

You've shouldn't done that in sandboxie folder. try to delete the dll file in the sandboxie folder and replace in sandboxie explorer. If it doesn't work the easiest way is to delete sandboxie contents and try that again in the right way.
keep in mind maybe the dll file is corrupted.

My guess is that the Dll needs to be re-registered. http://www.tech-faq.com/register-dll.shtml Now, how to get the re-registering into the Sandboxed reghive might take some doing. It seems to me that anything you do UNsandboxed will effect the real registry and not the existing reghive - plus since it is a sandboxed program, you probably have it sandboxed to avoid changes to the real registry. On the other hand, anything you do sandboxed likely will not 'stick'.

Unless someone can offer a way to do that - I would recco deleting that sandbox and reinstalling the new updated program. (Really hard when the program in question is not known btw)

you could try - right click on the sandbox (inside of sandboxie) -> Run Sandboxed -> Any program -> then type - regsvr32 dllname.dll

then see what happens, you might need a path to the dll file if it isnt in the normal location (windows)

so if the program is in program files\appname\

you would type
regsvr32 C:\program files\appname\dllname.dll
