Tor Browser [SOLVED]

Post by tull » Wed Feb 20, 2019 1:19 pm

• Windows version: windows 10 1809, (17763.316), 64-bit
• Sandboxie version number: 5.28, 64-bit
• Default Sandbox
• NAME & Version/build numbers of application involved: Tor Browser 8.0.6 (based on Mozilla Firefox 60.5.1esr) (64-bit) on USB Drive L:
• Antivirus/anti-malware software: Windows Defender
• The exact step to reproduce the issue: Launching app give the following error:
Initialization of the dynamic link library C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Sbie.Dll failed. The process is terminating abnormally.

The Tor Browser installed on USB drive has worked well for many years, but not now. How do I resolve this?

Use Tor x86 not x64. I use the former without issues.

Hi tull,

Unfortunately, we do not support TOR

I am leaving the thread open to see if Mr. X's suggestion helps others.

Regards,
Barb.-

Hi Mr. X
Thanks, but Sandboxie will not install a 32bit version on my 64bit Win 10 system. I have tried all versions available. Tor worked without problems on 32bit Win 10. Any ideas?

Wait. My Tor browser 32 bit runs on Windows 8.1 x64.

Do this:
1. Tor browser is portable by design, you don't install anything.
2. What I do is to run/unpack Tor (same file you download from here: https://www.torproject.org/download/dow ... sy.html.en)
3. Move the unpacked folder to a location of your like.
4. I have a dedicated sandboxed for Tor browser, set to run tor.exe and firefox.exe as forced programs.

Hi Mr. X
Thanks, I installed the 32bit Tor Browser, and it worked like a dream.
