Chrome + Sandboxie = CRASH

Post by Bellzemos » Wed Jul 08, 2015 8:29 pm

I have just installed Google Chrome on one of my computers, Chrome version is 43.0.2357.132 m. Sandboxie version is 4.20, Windows 8.1 x64 (fresh install, fully updated). Chrome only works if I disable the Drop Rights feature in Sandboxie or if I run Chrome with the --no-sandbox switch.

Otherwise it crashes. I feel like Chrome/Sandboxie is an eternal problem.

Is there a third way to make it work? If there's no third/other way, which one of the two is better/safer (disabled Chrome sandbox VS disabled Drop Rights)?

I turned on Drop Rights for my Chrome sandbox as a test, since I have the same program versions and OS that you have.
No problems here, with running 64-bit Chrome sandboxed.

I also turned on Drop Rights for my Chrome sandbox as another test and I use the Chrome program versions 43.0.2357.132 (32-bit) and 43.0.2357.132 (64-bit) but on different Win 7 SP1 64-bit OS.
Sweet and smooth here with no crash running both 32-bit and 64-bit Chrome browsers in Sandboxie sandbox.

Some people have problems with drop rights and Chrome. Do you have UAC disabled? http://forums.sandboxie.com/phpBB3/view ... 11&t=20733

Yes, you are right. I have UAC disabled in Windows and Drop Rights enabled in Sandboxie. And I want it like that. So if only solution is then to disable Drop Rights or disable Chrome's sandbox I think I'm gonna go with "--no-sandbox". What do you think?

Chrome doesn't crash but sometimes SBIE pop-up a message regarding "Bits", how can I allow bits while Drop rights is on?!

UAC disabled && Chrome && Sandboxie dropped rights issue is present since June 2014 (the time when they decided to make x64 Chrome).

The issue has been tracked down few months later, in November

Looks like Chrome issue

OK, I've read the old postings and I'm leaving UAC off, Drop Rights on and Chrome's sandbox off. That yellow warning sure ain't pretty but it disappears when you start browsing. Thank you all for your comments. :)

Bellzemos, I dont use Chrome but if it was me in your situation, I would just untick Drop Rights in Sandboxie, not mess with the Chrome sandbox....and relax. 8)

But Curt said: "This was entirely due to Chrome's sandbox feature which adds nothing but overhead and problems when running under Sandboxie. Double sandboxing is completely unnecessary."

I'm going with Chrome's sandbox disabled and Drop Rights enabled. Anyway, thank you all for the help! :)
