Make changes permanent (write sandbox container to disk)

Post by ethaniel » Wed Jun 13, 2018 3:08 pm

Is there a way to make all changes done inside the sandbox container permanent?
I've changed some settings within a program, but my container is stored on a ramdisk (because of frequent writes/deletes). Every time I restart the computer, my program settings are gone. I would like to do a one-time permanent write to the disk.

Hello ethaniel,

Please have a look at these options:
https://www.sandboxie.com/ResourceAccessSettings#file
https://www.sandboxie.com/OpenFilePath

Yep, I'm already using those options. But I would like to do a "one time dump" of all changes made inside the container onto the filesystem.
I see that all my changes to the registry and files are stored inside the container. But I want to make them permanent (once).

Hello ethaniel,

Sandboxie is an isolation software, its purpose is to keep changes from affecting your host.
You may want to use a Virtual Machine instead.

However, here are a few threads about moving programs outside Sandboxie that may help you:

Thank you for the links! However, I still want the program to stay sandboxed after the dump. And this is a feature request, since I'm a paying user :)

I'm running the Sandbox on a ramdisk and all changes are lost after a reboot. The programs themselves are stored outside of the Sandbox, so when I reboot, they get loaded with the default settings. Sometimes I want some changes to become permanent. That's why I'm asking for this feature.

Another use for this feature would be to use Sandboxie as a "deployment" program. I could install everything I want inside the Sandboxie container and then transfer this container to another computer, run the "dump to disk" feature (which would copy files/registry to the system) and then delete the container. This way all the programs would be installed preconfigured on the new system.
