Version 4.02 released

Post by tzuk » Mon Jun 17, 2013 8:18 am

Thank you very much to everyone for your patience with this release and the help!

This was a big step for Sandboxie but the many beta testers have helped a lot to make sure that Sandboxie v4 feels almost the same as v3.

I know there are still a few open issues that present varying levels of annoyance, and I hope to be able to address that as well.

Thanks again everyone!

Thanks, tzuk, for your continuous development and this new version 4 release ! :D

What is your recommended way for users to update from 3.76 to 4.02 ?
Just update and no need to uninstall version 3.76 ?
Or is it better and preferred to uninstall and let version 4.02 create a fresh sandboxie.ini configuration.

This is because of the fundamental design change that occurred with this new version 4.

Paul has recommended that users install version 4.02 on top of version 3.76 and it will be good to hear your advice on this major update. :P

Thanks, Tzuk, for keeping Sandboxie on the cutting edge.

There is no more useful or important piece of software when it comes to protecting my system's security.

Version 4.02.
Released on 17 June 2013.
This release is a redesign of the inner workings of Sandboxie which improves compatibility with current and future versions of Windows. For a technical discussion, please see this forum post.
These are the changes to Sandboxie since version 3.76:
Full protection is offered on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows. The Experimental Protection feature, which enabled full protection on 64-bit Windows, is no longer needed, and was removed.
Improved compatibility with avast!, Driver Verifier, EMET, F-Secure, KeyScrambler, Lingoes, Listary, Norton Internet Security, Office 2013, PGP, Proxifier, ProxyCap, Solid Converter PDF, Windows 8.
Removed support for Windows 2000. Service Pack 3 is required for use on Windows XP.
...that's nothing. Doesn't actually say what details changed. (Unless you don't keep track of that in the first place, then nevermind.) :)

I don't think most people care for a long list of fixes to esoteric problems that they never experienced.
If this minutiae interests you, you may peruse this 4.01 forum which goes into great detail about all changes.

Still on 3.76 due to some issues on beta 4. 4.02 is stable now?

Thanks for the update.
