Cryptojacking [SOLVED]

Post by phrab » Thu Feb 14, 2019 8:00 pm

I've been reading about cryptojacking where a website can run Java on your browser without you having to download any malware, & therefore use your computer to mine for crptocurrency. Does Sandboxie prevent cryptojacking?
Thank you in advance,
Phil

Sandboxie version 5.28 64-bit

Running Windows Defender
Also, Windows XP Pro SP-3

I think the best way Sandboxie can help regarding Cryptojacking is to delete the sandbox constantly. My everyday sandbox is set to delete on closing. If you like to stop worrying from malware that uses Java script to infect people, start using script blockers like NoScript for Firefox. Thats what I do. NoScript blocks, Sandboxie contains (Best combo for protection in the World, IMO). Also, dont open unsolicited emails and you ll be fine regarding Cryptojacking.

Thank you for your response! I do delete my Sandbox frequently & was unaware that I could do so automatically. Thanks for the suggestion! I found the option under Sandbox Settings/DefaultBox/Delete/Delete Invocation/Automatically delete contents of sandbox.

I also just searched for & added "NoScript Suite Lite" (for Chrome, since that's what I use), so I appreciate that suggestion also. I never open unsolicited emails &, in fact, I always go offline to read my emails, so that no web beacons send information back to the sender (although I use Thunderbird, which blocks all remote content in unfamiliar emails).

Wait, that's not the extension I recommended. Be careful. There is No NoScript for Chrome. NoScript only works in Firefox and browsers like Firefox. Look here, this is the correct link. What you installd, appears to be Mickey Mouse, using a alike name to confuse users.

Thank you again! For what it's worth, I had "installed it", so I thought. After reading your post, I went to check & found that Chrome didn't install it (not sure it's because I was using a Sandboxed Chrome at the time or if Google prevented it. In any event, it's not installed. Do you know if there's an app for Google Chrome?

You probably installed it sandboxed, and the installation was deleted when the sandbox got deleted. Probably, that worked out for the best.

uBlock Origin is supposed to be good, I never used it but its supposed to be a decent program. Certainly, its clean, from a well known developer. To me, NoScript has no substitute but you dont use Firefox.

You can install it sandboxed as a test but to learn it, you have to install it in your system and give it some time before it clicks on your head. Its got different level, start with the rookie level (I dont kn0w what its called), and try to move on to advanced in a few weeks.

I personally believe, that next to Sandboxie, script blocking is the best protection you can get. I started using it 10 years ago, same time as Sandboxie, never seen malware ever since. Not even a "maybe", its like it totally disappeared.
