Could a virus damage internet explorer within Sandbox?

Hi folks,

I have been browsing a few sites within the sandbox and I think, though I am not 100% sure, that some sort of malware is actually damaging internet explorer within the sandbox, so that even when I use internet explorer outside the sandbox, and deleting the contents of the sandbox, internet explorer locks up.

Is this possible?

I am running windows 10 64 bit and using Avast antivirus.
