Crash Dump of sbiedrv.sys + Driver verifier (SOLVED)

Post by TyeBox » Wed Mar 13, 2019 3:51 am

Windows 10 x64 Enterprise build: 17763, Sandboxie 5.28 x64

Windows 10 Driver Verifier detected driver violations in sbiedrv.sys upon booting into windows. I've been experiencing daily random windows crashes since upgrading to windows 10; I'm wondering if this may have something to do with it.

WhoCrashed:

On Tue 3/12/2019 11:25:25 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: sbiedrv.sys (0xFFFFF8047E52F387)
Bugcheck code: 0xC4 (0x2000, 0xFFFFF8047E52F387, 0x0, 0x786F6273)
Error: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Bug check description: This is the general bug check code for fatal errors found by Driver Verifier.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: sbiedrv.sys .
Google query: sbiedrv.sys DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION

Here is the full dump file, if there is anything else you require for further troubleshooting please just say the word.

Disabling the driver on boot did result in successful logon.

No response?

From a Microsoft MVP/Insider :
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/thread ... mps.27805/

That is absurd.

The likely reason that Sandboxie "doesn't work" with Driver Verifier is because Driver Verifier flags the driver as it is probably poorly written and can't pass Driver Verifier's checks.

System up-time was just 43 seconds when Sandboxie was flagged. It also somehow dragged win32k.sys (Microsoft driver) in with it.

Every 3rd party driver should be able to pass Driver Verifier's tests. I in fact believe they do to be digitally signed.

I am being told by Microsoft MVP dump analyst specialists to get rid of sandboxie to stop my BSOD's, please make your driver stable with windows. it must pass driver verifier testing to be considered stable.

Hi TyeBox ,

As covered by the devs, this is not supported. That's why the thread is marked Solved, there is no further action to take at this time.
Locking this thread.
