Lingering programs not terminated for Chrome in Windows 10

Post by cornflake » Wed Feb 27, 2019 2:35 pm

In Chrome in Windows 10 for at least a month when I close Chrome the lingering programs do not terminate. I have been using Sandboxie 5.26 on that computer for about a 6+ months. The processes running are CompPkgSrv.exe, RuntimeBroker.exe, SandboxieCrypto.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe and SandboxieRpcSs.exe. I have LingerProcess=runtimebroker.exe,CompPkgSrv.exe but the programs do not terminate. Selecting "Terminate Programs" from the menu works.

:!: The Windows version number? Windows 10 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316)
:!: Sandboxie version number? Sandboxie 5.28 x64
:!: Does the issue occur in a new Sandbox with Default settings? Yes
:!: NAME & Version/build numbers of any applications involved? Chrome 72.0.3626.119 (Official Build) (64-bit)
:!: Are you running antivirus/anti-malware software? Windows Defender
:!: What are the exact steps to reproduce the issue? Create a sandbox. Start Chrome in the sandbox. Leave it open for some time (5-10 min). Close Chrome. Repeat until processes linger. (runtimebroker and comppkgsrv are started by sandboxiedcomlaunch.)

The lingering processes do terminate eventually like several minutes afterwards but they should terminate immediately.

Hi cornflake,

Tested the provided info and saw a similar behavior when CopmpPkgSrv appeared (second time I launched Chrome / and then after, say 5 attempts of relaunching) .

Adding Chrome as leader process worked for me: https://www.sandboxie.com/LeaderProcess

Ok I'll try that thanks. I think this is a bug because the programs should terminate. It would be a nice feature if I could automatically ensure nothing was running in a sandbox and/or no files exist before starting the sandbox. For example if I click on a program can I be sure that nothing is running in the target sandbox before the program is started in that sandbox, or if it is then terminate those programs before starting?
