SBIE2303-2224 Sandboxed program has crashed iexplore.exe- CryptClassErrorHandler[Fixed in beta 5.25.6]

Post by travisrawls » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:16 pm

Today I started getting this message after launching ie in sandboxie:

SBIE2303 Could not hook CryptClassErrorHandler (4)

three hours ago it was working fine.... Nothing new installed or updates..

Anyone have any suggestions besides don't use ie?

Sandboxie crashing. Error SBIE2303 & SBIE2224

Post by ExpertNovice » Fri Jun 22, 2018 5:34 pm

SBIE2303 Could not hook CryptClassErrorHandler (4)
SBIE2224 Sandboxed program has crashed: iexplore.exe [DefaultBox]

Sandboxie 5.24 (64bit)
Windows 10 Pro 64bit, version 1803
Emsisoft Anti-Malware 2018.5.0.8686
Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0.20.31
Malwarebytes Premium 3.5.1

No issues until today. Now, Sandboxie crashes pretty fast. Last system update was last week.

Any suggestions on correcting the problem?

It looks like MS has made some internal changes to the 64 bit version of file \windows\system32\ncryptprov.dll.

Please post the date, time, and version # of this file here, please.

We will have a new beta on Monday that will fix this issue.

Hi Curt, FWIW, I am using W10 1803 Build 17134.112, and haven't experienced any issue or gotten any SBIE messages while running IE11. The version for ncryptprov.dll in my computer is dated 11/4/2018 5:34 PM. Version number 10.0.17134.1.

Never mind what I said earlier.

I just tried IE11 a few more times and did get the SBIE messages. IE11 crashes, the messages get issued and IE11 reopens on its own doing automatically. I gotten also a 2101 message (not reported by bjm or travisrawls). I gotten the crash twice, the first time I got the 2101 message and the second time I didnt.

I dont use IE11 at all. I just test it works after updating the system. And normally only open 1 site with it. Navigating that particular site IE doesnt crash but navigating the SBIE forum does crashes IE11.

SBIE2303 Could not hook CryptClassErrorHandler (4)
SBIE2224 Sandboxed program has crashed: iexplore.exe [IE]
SBIE2101 Object name not found: , error ConnectPort (C0000022) access=001F0000 initialized=1

I noticed that issue yesterday also. A sandboxed IE worked the day before yesterday flawless. No new Windows updates were installed.

On all my systems I could solve the issue by the following simple steps: Just open IE unsandboxed and browse a website.

After that, IE works sandboxed again. (On multi-user systems you have to do that for every user account.)

Hi ExpertNovice, the date for file ncryptprov.dll in my computer is also April 11, 2018. The date format my computer uses (as suggested by bjm) is DMY instead of MDY.

Hello BilleBarrett ,

There is a workaround posted in the thread. That's the latest update.

As soon as new developments become available, we will update this topic.

Barb.-

Hi All

Unfortunately, APMichael's workaround doesn't do the trick here on Win 10 1803, so IE is unusable sandboxed as it continually auto-closes with the error.

ncryptprov.dll is dated 12 April 00.34, file version 10.0.17134.1

Thanks

Bo & bjm, I do apologize. Hopefully, you realized no disrespect was intended. Even my post could be misinterpreted becauase the date was entered as 4/11/2018. :P

As for APMichael's workaround. This seems to be why my sandboxie began to work on my systems. Including my Wife's who never failed once I took over to show her how to disable forced programs so she could ues IE11.

So, to preface APMichael's workaround.
First Close Sandboxie. (I also deleted deleted contents and terminated all programs.)
then
[APMichael post_id=133916 time=1529745410 user_id=24269]
Just open IE unsandboxed and browse a website.

After that, IE works sandboxed again. (On multi-user systems you have to do that for every user account.)
