Sandboxie overrides default audio devices on non-primary workplaces

Post by shadowbert » Sat Dec 02, 2017 7:20 am

:!: The Windows version number? (i.e. Windows 7 32bit, 8.1 x64, etc)
Windows 10 x64 Build 16299.64

:!: Sandboxie version number (SBIE v5.10? 5.06?)
5.22 (64 bit)

:!: NAME & Version/build numbers of any applications involved? (Chrome v43, FF45 etc)
Aster Multiseat v2.21

:!: Are you running antivirus/anti-malware software? (AVG, Live Essentials..etc)
Windows Defender

I'm running steam through sandboxie due to necessity - only one instance will run on any single computer (despite being different users). When I launch a steam game, the game starts in the sandbox (which is fine) but it seems to ignore the devices I have set in the workplaces screen on aster.

For example, I have workstation 1 set up with a specific sound device, and workstation 2 set up with a different one.
When I launch the game on workstation 1, it uses the correct speakers. When I launch either the same game on workstation 2, it uses the speakers on workstation 1.

Both applications are running in their own separate sandbox (because we are logged in as different users, proof is that steam actually opens)

Is there a way to force a given sandbox to forward all audio to a specific sound device?

Are there plans to look into this problem, and fix it? I assume that it's caused by sandboxie forwarding the sound driver device at a lower level than Aster is patching it (or whatever magic they're doing).

Thanks for the advice Barb - sorry I didn't notice this sooner. Apparently I don't get notifications.

I had a look through the urls suggested on that page, and the closest one I could find was the one suggesting I allow direct access to sound devices. Sadly though, the advice given must have been for an older version as I was unable to follow along...

audio goes to wrong workstation in sandboxie.

We buy you software of Sandboxie, but Now we encounter with a serious problem:

I'm running steam game through Sandboxie(v5.22) in windows10. When I launch a steam game, the game starts in the sandbox ignore the audio devices I have set in the workplaces by Aster. Sometimes, When I launch either the same game on workstation 2, it uses the speakers on workstation 1. audio goes to wrong workplace in sandboxie.

Is there a way to force a given sandbox to forward all audio to a specific sound device?

I have searched for the solution in sandboxie forum, and found so many people occur this problem. And I have found the reason is "When a program in the sandbox accesses the device manager to find out which devices exist, the request goes through the Sandboxie service in session 0, whereas logins occur starting on sessions 1. So one possibility is that your audio redirecting software is only managing what happens in sessions 1 and onwards and this is why the program in the sandbox seems to see all your devices."(viewtopic.php?t=12430).

However, nobody gives the effective solution to solve this problem.

Can you help me?Thanks for your replying!

Hello hlg1989@163.com,

Please see my response above:
viewtopic.php?p=131386#p131386

Aside from the info in those threads, I have a few suggestions :

Please install the latest version of Sandboxie or the latest beta:
Beta: viewtopic.php?p=133187#p133187
Stable: https://www.sandboxie.com/DownloadSandboxie

You could give this a try (the thread is for a different program, but the problem is related):
viewtopic.php?p=122009#p122009

I've seen other Aster threads in which users have opened WinClass=*, not sure if that can fix the issue, but you can try. Keep in mind that is a testing feature and it may cause system instability including BSODs (try at your own discretion):
Right-click on your Sandbox --> Sandbox settings -->Resource Access ---> Windows Access
Click "Add" and enter:
*
Apply and Ok your way out.
Configure--> Reload configuration
Delete the contents of your Sandbox and re-try (please save all your data prior to re-trying, as this option is unstable)

Regards,
Barb.-
