Installed windows updates now sandboxie no longer works

Postby tsmith » Tue Apr 13, 2010 7:50 pm

Sandboxie has been working great with all programs, using v. 345.05 32bit. This morning I installed windows
updates and now sandboxie no longer works. Errors I am seeing are:

SBIE 2306 Could not locate user directory. [C0000022/11]
SBIE 2304 Initialization failed for process Start.exe

Deleted sandboxie, user profile, everything. Reinstalled latest version 345.06 32bit. Does not matter
what program I try to run sandboxed I keep getting the same errors . Tried installing sandboxie
to a different folder name and that didnt help. What user directory is it refering to?
Was working fine until I ran widows updates.
Sandboxie seems to be the only program effected by the windows update.

Using WinXP with sp2

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Running Windows XPSP3, Sandboxie 3.44. Windows update broke sandboxie. Get SB error 2306 (cannot locate directory) and 2304 (initialization failed to start). Uninstalled and reinstalled. Same result.

Same here. :(

After updating windows today got

Code: Select all
sbie2306 Could not locate user directory: [C0000022 / 11]
sbie2304 Initialization failed for process Start.exe

Searched through the forums and it seems to be a permission thing. Did a KeyTrace=d and checked debugview and confirmed

Code: Select all
(000816) SBIE (KD) 00000001 \REGISTRY
(000816) SBIE (KD) 00020019 \REGISTRY\Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

So something in one of todays security updates, for XP at least, is keeping SandboxIE from accessing that key. I'm going to dig around some more and see what I can turn up.

ran C:\Documents and Settings\mvario>reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" /v ProfilesDirectory from the command line and got:

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList    ProfilesDirectory   REG_EXPAND_SZ   %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings

So the key/value looks intact.

Error Messages not understood

Postby Green Giant » Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:27 pm

After installing today's Microsoft updates I get error messages SBIE2306 and SBIE 2304, which I do not know how to rectify.

I have tried deleting the sandbox as usual, and I am told this has been done, but it reappears automatically showing files to be deleted.

I cannot use Sandboxie at the moment until this recurrent error is put right. How please do I do this?

I can confirm same sbie2306 & sbie2304 errors reported by mvario (and tsmith in the other thread) after today's MS Patch Tuesday.
So sad.
I uninstalled Sandboxie and will keep my eye on this forum.
Tzuk... good luck with that.

Microsoft Critical Updates for 4/13/10

Postby fred128 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:52 pm

Immediately after installing the updates, Sandboxie 3.44 failed to work citing error 2304. Uninstalling and reinstalling did not work.

Tried on several WinXP boxes with different XP flavours - same effect and error messages all round after applying the latest round of MS patches today, so it's consistent.

Did anyone get this on anything other than XP? or is it just an XP issue?

Sorry that I've not posted here in a little while (because I didn't have too), but I am now since I too am getting both these errors after XP (running in VM) update. Even un-installed (and mean completely) and re-installed but to no avail. If need be, I will un-install the security update that's conflicting with SBIE since it's much better w.r.t. protection then anything Microsoft can put out. Please help if you can tzuk. :)

Confirmed on XP SP3 with 3.45.06. Windows 7 is not affected. The problematic update: Security Update for Windows XP (KB979683).
