Ideas for enhancements to the software

Portable

Postby Pablo » Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:25 am

I think it will be not so dificult to make it portable, so we can run some menu software like PStart and all software who run from it is sandboxed and when we shuttdown PStart, sandbox shutdowns. It will be a great adition to all HDUSB and PenUSB users. THANKS

You should know this is quite the popular suggestion. But perhaps easier said than done.

Just to be clear, a portable Sandboxie means a Sandboxie that you can run, without it making any changes to the host computer? (Or are SOME changes allowed?)

Would the sandboxes have to be created on the USB drive as well?

Portable

Postby Pablo » Sat Mar 11, 2006 1:02 am

I made this post:

http://portableapps.com/node/1124

As you will see, its allowed (i have no problem at all) to make certain changes on host computer, because when i stop.cmd it it will erase all, i use clear.cmd to make more cleaning.
I use a USB HD 40mb so if i want i make all changes on HD.
I´m looking a more clean solution, because i need to install silently the soft.
My solution doesnt need rebooting. I start and stop without reboot.
And works ok.
If you have a better solution, please post it.
THANKS

You have "sc stop Sandbox" listed there in the stop.cmd part, does that really work? The Sandbox driver is not stoppable.

"sc delete Sandbox" should work, but since the service (driver) is still active, it just marks it for deletion. This means you would have to restart the system if you wanted to install Sandboxie again.

As for clear.cmd, I would suggest you also delete registry subtrees beginning at HKLM\Software\tzuk and HKCU\Software\tzuk .

You are right...it´s marked to delete after reboot.
That keys also added.
I´m looking right now the solution to not install anytime i use it, but have it installed on my own USB.
Thanks.

My thoughts exactaly

When I saw this program, developing portable version was the first thing that came to mind. My idea would be to have the changes stored on the USB item. That way you would be able to test beta software without clogging up your registry, but accessing where you were, at any time. Is it possible to install into the sandbox environment? There may be the option of having it run as the deafult on someones computer so they cannot "break it" and reformatting could become a thing of the past. It may even be possible to use it as a virtual machine with user settings saved onto USB.

Well, you can try it and share your experience. The Options menu in the Sandboxie application can let you "Set Sandbox Top-Level Folder", and you could give the path to a USB folder.

A friend pointed out to me that your portable Sandboxie work is a great way to turn any application into a portable application.

That is to say, that you can use Sandboxie to install all your favorite programs into a sandbox rooted on the USB, then use that sandbox with every other computer you use.

And all the programs instantly become portable!

So, thanks for your work. :D

Portable

I´m still thinking on this. I have currently two files start.vbs and stop.vbs to make portable sandboxie work. I have an idea, if we install something on the sandbox and we move this sandbox to other desktop, it has to work, because is isolated from the original pc. So i´m just thinking just thinking ;)

Pablo,

This seems great. Can I use it with SBIE 2.33beta?

Thanks for sharing it.

Oops! I see Tzuk has released SBIE 2.35.

Will your AutoIt program work with 2.35?

Thanks again.
